Our Story

With that vision in mind our founders developed a groundbreaking technology to help communities and businesses cleanup groundwater contamination that others simply cannot. At the center of that technology is a groundwater recirculation system that is driven by a pump powered with air, otherwise known as an AirLift pump; a technology invented in the 1800’s but never before used in a groundwater recirculation system.
We are AirLift Environmental, a veteran owned small business dedicated to finding effective, affordable, and timely solutions to your groundwater contamination problems.

Mark Christenson
President
Mark is Airlift Environmental’s co-founder and President. After serving six years in the U.S. Navy as a chemist on a nuclear submarine he returned to Nebraska to earn his degrees at the University of Nebraska (UNL). Mark designed, built, and installed the very first oxidant candle system used at a field site during his graduate school research. Each Oxidant Candle and Modular Oxidant Delivery System that AirLift installs is meticulously designed by Mark and his team.
Dr. Steve Comfort
Vice President
Steve is Airlift Environmental’s co-founder and VP. He has been a Professor of Soil and Water Chemistry at UNL for almost three decades, with over 70 peer reviewed co-authored research publications. His extensive knowledge and experience in solving environmental contaminant problems on a molecular level provides AirLift with the technical expertise to solve your problems in a way that most other remediation providers cannot match.
James Reece
Environmental Remediation Technician II
James is the world leader in Oxidant Candle manufacturing and installation. He has developed an unrivaled level of experience and know how on his way to installing thousands of feet of Oxidant Candles to help our clients meet their clean-up goals. He knows first hand the superiority of AirLift's technologies from his experience injecting liquid oxidants before joining the AirLift team.
Elise Webb
Environmental Laboratory Technician I
Elise is an undergraduate student at the (UNL) receiving her B.S. in Biochemistry in the fall of 2020. She also has minors in mathematics, chemistry, and environmental studies. She honed her environmental research skills in the Soil and Water Chemistry Laboratory and the School of Biological Science at UNL. Elise's focus at AirLift is in developing PFAS remediation strategies, in addition to, remediation system installations and operations.
Zoe Christenson
Intern
Zoe Christenson is an undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. She has been working at AirLift as a summer intern since her Junior year of high school. While at AirLift Zoe has assisted in Algal mitigation systems, PFAS IDW treatment strategies, and Oxidant Candle manufacturing and installations.
